i’m Victor,
a father of two boys,
I am 48 years old, I am married to a German woman, and I have been living in Hamburg for almost 10 years.
Our boys are now 5 and 10 years old, and both, my wife and I, are speaking to our children in our respective languages, which sometimes creates little problems and sometimes it’s fun and sometimes we are mixing up everything.
But over time one realizes the importance of languages both for understanding other people and for understanding their cultures. And the sooner you start learning, the easier it will be to understand.
In my case, it’s very easy to speak in my mother tongue to my children, but in most cases, parents do not have this facility since they either do not know other languages or do not know how to use it in their daily family lives.
This is what we try to improve here, with our courses. It is not necessary to speak a language perfectly if you do not lose your fear of using it, and talking in the additional family language with your children is the first step.
